ReadHatch ("we," "our," or "us") provides a mobile application that helps children practice reading comprehension through AI-generated quizzes. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use ReadHatch.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create a parent account, we collect your email address and password through our authentication provider, Clerk. We do not collect personal information directly from children.
Reader Profile Information
Parents may create reader profiles that include a first name and age. This information is used solely to personalize the reading experience and generate age-appropriate quiz questions. Children do not create their own accounts or provide information directly.
Usage Data
We collect information about quiz activity, scores, points, and reading progress to provide the app's features (levels, streaks, reading pet progression, and parent dashboards).
3. How We Use Information
- To provide and operate the ReadHatch service
- To generate age-appropriate comprehension quizzes using AI
- To track reading progress, points, levels, and streaks
- To allow parents to monitor their children's reading activity
- To process subscription payments through the App Store
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
ReadHatch is designed to be COPPA-friendly. Children do not create accounts, provide personal information, or interact with the service directly without a parent's involvement. All reader profiles are created and managed by the parent account holder. Reader names and ages are stored solely for personalization and are never shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Third-Party Services
ReadHatch uses the following third-party services:
- Clerk — Authentication and account management
- Convex — Database and backend infrastructure
- OpenRouter / Anthropic — AI quiz generation (book titles and reader ages are sent to generate questions; no personally identifiable information is transmitted)
- Open Library — Book search and metadata
- RevenueCat / Apple App Store — Subscription payment processing
- Google Analytics — Anonymized website usage analytics on readhatch.com (page views, traffic sources). No personally identifiable information from app users is shared with Google Analytics.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Authentication is handled by Clerk, an industry-standard authentication provider. API keys and sensitive credentials are stored server-side and never exposed to client devices.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account and reading data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the email address below.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Withdraw consent for data processing (by deleting your account)
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy with a new "Last updated" date. Your continued use of ReadHatch after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
